Lagoa – Proven genetics
Lagoa is the largest genetic improvement center in Latin America. It is located in Sertãozinho (SP) holding around 150 bulls in regimen of continuous semen collection from various meat, milk and double aptittude breeds. The center is part of the CRV, one of the major artificial insemination groups in the world, present in many countries.
The center semen bank is recognized by its high genetic value, holding material from more than 400 reproductors and approximately 40 breeds. With over 35 years on the market Lagoa has already commercialized dozens of millions of semen doses.
Lagoa holds the ISO 9001 certificate of quality and the Seal of Quality Semen Fertilization issued by The Brazilian College of Animal Reproduction (BCAR) and is getting ready to receive the ISO 14000 environmental certification.
In 2005 Lagoa launched the sex semen, which allows the breeder to choose the sex of the animal he is bringing into the herd. There is a minimum guarantee of 85% for the chosen sex. It is a real revolution in the area of genetic improvement, with Lagoa’s recognized quality standard. The product represents 30% of the company sales.
To satisfy breeders’ needs and ensure superior assistance and quality, Lagoa offers various programs and services:
Lagoa Advanced Teaching – Lagoa offers various courses throughout the year aiming at training breeders. There are the AI (Artificial Insemination) courses, Livestock Management course, Leadership course – Personal Excellence, Carcass Classification Course, among others.

Lagoa is recognized as the “House of the Proven Zebu” due to the unique quallities in its bulls Moreover, Lagoa holds the best breeds for milk production, such as Dairy Gir, Girolando and Guzerat Due to the tropical climate, most of the milk production in Brazil is pasture-based in an extensive way Presently about 80% of the Brazilian milk come from Girolando breed, proceeding from the crossbreedings of Zebu animals, mainly Dairy Gir with Holstein, or Guzolando, result of the crossbreeding of Guzerat and Hoslten.
Lagoa’s bulls are known by their excellence in productivity and are rigorously chosen in the best farms in Brazil, thus offering national breeders various options of pedigree and genetic quality.
In March 2008 Lagoa started trading sheep and goat semen, in partnership with the center Top in Life, holding various champions and great lineages in meat and milk production.
